Jason Bowes is a criminal defense attorney in the Criminal Trial Division at Deandra Grant Law, where he focuses on serious felony and child abuse defense. A Dallas native and Texas Army National Guard veteran, he graduated in the top 20% of his class from Texas Wesleyan School of Law and spent years sharpening his courtroom instincts, first as a civil trial attorney who posted the most wins of any Allstate attorney in Texas, then trying dozens of first-chair felony cases including murder, sexual assault, and domestic violence. Having experienced the criminal justice system from both sides, Jason brings hard-won trial experience and a fierce commitment to clients facing the charges most attorneys won't take.

Meet Jason

Jason was born in Chicago but headed for Texas as soon as he could—first to Houston at six months old, then settling in Dallas at age two, where he has called home ever since. He graduated from Highland Park High School and enlisted in the Texas National Guard after a stint of active duty at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Before law school, Jason spent a decade and a half tending bar in some of Dallas’s most respected high-end restaurants and lounges. When the late nights eventually caught up with him (as they tend to) he traded the bar for the books. He earned an Associate’s degree in Spanish from Collin County Community College, then a bachelor’s in Medieval History from the University of Texas at Dallas, before graduating in the top 20% of his class from Texas Wesleyan School of Law in 2008. Along the way, he became the proud father of his two greatest accomplishments: Jackson, now a freshman studying aerospace engineering at Auburn University, and Emerson, an avid volleyball player and freshman at Allen High School. Jason now calls Waco, Texas, home and is thrilled to be working alongside legends like Deandra Grant and Doug Huff. He has been sober since 2015 and devotes much of his time outside the practice to substance abuse charities, giving back to the community whenever he gets the chance. When he isn’t in court, he can be found running, exploring the outdoors, or simply enjoying the serenity of country life. Jason has experienced the criminal justice system from both sides (as a defendant and as an attorney) and that perspective shapes how he fights for every client he represents.

Lawyer Stuff

Jason began his legal career in 2008 as a national title compliance officer with Fidelity National Agency Solutions, where he handled title underwriting, claims management, and regulatory compliance for Fidelity’s national title insurance arm. In 2010, he joined Bell & Bowes as an attorney, conducting residential real estate closings while litigating a heavy volume of title claims during the height of the mortgage crisis. In 2012, Jason joined G. Patrick Collins to defend insurance claims for Allstate and that is where he fell in love with the courtroom. He tried 25 civil jury cases as first chair, posting the most trials, the most wins, and the most plaintiff take-nothing verdicts of any Allstate attorney in Texas. Allstate is where Jason learned the art of trial and sharpened the courtroom instincts that define his practice today. In 2016, Jason moved to the Law Office of James Vasilas, where he spent the next seven years representing clients on everything from misdemeanors to murder, with a particular focus on undocumented clients facing serious criminal charges. There he tried dozens of felony cases as first chair (including murder, aggravated sexual assault of a child, indecency with a child, continuous sexual abuse of a child, and a wide range of domestic violence matters) and developed a passion for defending the accused in child abuse cases. Jason believes no client needs an aggressive lawyer more than someone facing a sex crime allegation: the evidence is rarely “hard,” the law is heavily weighted toward the complaining witness, and most attorneys won’t even take the case. Juries walk in presuming guilt. Jason makes sure his clients have one person in the courtroom unafraid to fight back. Jason ran his own Dallas firm for 3 years with a focus on high-level felonies and child abuse defense. He now brings that hard-won trial experience (and that fierce commitment to the wrongly accused) to the team at Deandra Grant Law.
