Meet Kevin

Kevin was born in Long Beach, California, but grew up traveling extensively, spending his formative years living in Kentucky, Hawaii, California, Washington, D.C., New York, Thailand, and Zambia. His passion for justice developed early in life, as his family was active in humanitarian missions work—ranging from visiting and assisting refugees in immigration jails to rehabilitating victims of sex-trafficking in Thailand. Kevin moved to Brooklyn, NY in 2008 where he began a second career in the hospitality industry, developing skills as a server, line-cook, and manager in various high-end restaurants throughout Manhattan. He and his wife moved to Denton, TX in 2015, where they owned and operated restaurants specializing in fusing Texan and Jamaican barbecue. Motivated by the injustices he witnessed in both his international travel and experiences in New York during the height of “Stop and Frisk”, Kevin embarked on his next chapter as a criminal defense attorney In his free time, Kevin enjoys long conversations with his wife, cooking barbecue on their commercial smoker, and sweeping up hair shed by their blue-heeler “Gemini”, Great Pyrenees “Sebastian”, Pit-bull mix “Izzy”, and ginger tabby “Little Kev”.

Lawyer Stuff

Kevin graduated from American University in Washington D.C. with a double major in interdisciplinary government studies and international economics. Shortly thereafter, he moved to the rural village of Macha, Zambia, researching the intersection of social dynamics and economic decision making in resource-limited communities. After publishing his research, he worked as an illustrator and writer, producing HIV educational materials throughout Zambia for the Catholic Medical Missions Board. Kevin earned his law degree from Southern Methodist University, receiving honors for his pro-bono work with Legal Aid of Northwest Texas. He was active in negotiations, moot-court, and mock trial competitions both on and off campus, and was inducted into the Order of the Barristers for excellence in oral advocacy. While in law school, he co-founded SMU’s chapter of The Justice Initiative, a national organization in partnership with Howard and Harvard University law schools dedicated to confronting racial and social injustice in both the criminal justice system and the practice of law. He got his first taste of “real” law practice defending clients as a student-attorney through SMU’s Criminal Defense Clinic, and was one of two students selected as members of the Sarah T. Hughes North Texas Federal Criminal Law Inn of Court. As an attorney, his professional memberships include the Texas State Bar, the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, and the National Lawyers Guild. He co-authored chapters for the upcoming edition of Texas DWI Manual, and also co-authored a 2023 Intoxication Case Law update for State Bar of Texas Advanced Criminal Law Course.

Experience

In 2024, Kevin completed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)/International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Standardized Field Sobriety Testing Program. This training has been a cornerstone in enhancing his courtroom skills through his understanding of field sobriety test administration.
