      Dallas Criminal Defense

Criminal charges in Dallas County are prosecuted by the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office and heard in the Criminal District Courts at the Frank Crowley Courts Building, 133 N. Riverfront Blvd, Dallas, TX 75207. The Dallas County DA’s office is one of the largest and most resource-intensive prosecution offices in Texas. The quality of the defense it faces matters to the outcome of every case.

Deandra Grant Law has defended criminal cases in Dallas County for more than 30 years. Managing Partner Deandra M. Grant holds the ACS-CHAL Forensic Lawyer-Scientist designation, a Master’s Degree in Pharmaceutical Science, a Graduate Certificate in Forensic Toxicology, and is a trained SFST instructor. She has authored 17 law books and has been recognized as a Texas Super Lawyer since 2011. Partner Douglas E. Huff holds the same ACS-CHAL designation and has completed advanced digital forensics training. Of Counsel James Lee Bright has more than 25 years of federal trial experience across all four Texas federal districts.

What Makes Dallas County Criminal Defense Different

The forensic science difference.  Every serious criminal defense has two components: the legal analysis and the scientific analysis. Most defense attorneys cover the legal side. The forensic science side is where Deandra Grant Law is different. In DWI cases, Deandra Grant’s pharmaceutical science training and SFST instructor training allow the breath test, blood test, and field sobriety evidence to be challenged at the chemistry level. In drug cases, the same analytical training applies to laboratory identification and weight evidence. In digital evidence cases (fraud, theft, sex offenses, cybercrime) Doug Huff’s digital forensics training means the prosecution’s electronic evidence is evaluated independently at the data level.

The constitutional foundation.  Texas Code of Criminal Procedure Article 38.23 is the state exclusionary rule prohibiting use of evidence obtained in violation of the Texas or United States Constitutions. Texas has no good faith exception. When law enforcement obtained evidence through an unlawful stop, a defective warrant, or a search that exceeded consent, that evidence is suppressible and suppression frequently ends the case. Every Deandra Grant Law case begins with an Article 38.23 analysis before any other defense strategy is built.

Federal capability.  Dallas County sits in the Northern District of Texas. Federal charges arising from Dallas County conduct (drug trafficking, firearms, fraud, money laundering, and more) are heard in the Federal courthouse in Dallas. James Lee Bright is admitted to all four Texas federal districts and has tried federal cases to verdict in courts across Texas and beyond.
