About James

Attorney James Lee Bright is a current and past member of Super Lawyers® as well as appearing in the Best of D Magazine Lawyers edition multiple times over the course of his two and a half decades career as a criminal defense attorney. Education

Raised in Dallas, Texas and Chattanooga, Tennessee, Lee graduated from Hampden-Sydney College in 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts in History and German. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1996. In the spring of 2002, Lee served as a visiting professor at the Uniwesytet (University) Marii Curie in Lublin, Poland. He then continued his legal studies and earned a Master of Laws, with an emphasis on International Law, from the Southern Methodist University Dedmon School of Law in 2003. While obtaining his L.L.M., Lee was a member of the Phi Delta Phi national honor fraternity.

Federal Admissions/Memberships

Lee is admitted as a member of the Federal District Court for the Northern, Eastern, Southern and Western Districts of Texas, as well as the Federal District Court for the District of Columbia. He is also a admitted as a member of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

State Admissions/Memberships

Lee has been a member of the State Bar of Texas since 1997. He is a member of both the Dallas and Tarrant County Defense Lawyers Association and served as the President of the Dallas County Defense Lawyers Association in 2010 and 2011.

Professional Experience

Over the course of his career, Lee has handled thousands of cases at State and Federal levels. He has represented a wide range of clients, vigorously defending them against all manner of charges, from the most basic of State charges to the most complex Federal charges. He has participated in hundreds of trials, always fighting to achieve the best outcome for those who have entrusted him to handle their legal matters.

Lee has represented several people in the Federal District Court for the District of Columbia, culminating with a three-month trial, which brought his name to national prominence within the legal community and highlighted by legal and news organizations around the world.

As an attorney who specializes in Federal practice, a very in-depth and complex area of law, Lee has established himself as one of the most well-respected attorneys in the field.
