Meet Omar Sherif

Omar Sherif was born in New Jersey but grew up and spent most of his life in Rowlett, Texas. Since graduating from Rowlett High School, Omar spent his free time giving back to the very community that raised him by being an active member of multiple city boards and commissions in Rowlett, even to this day.

After high school, Omar chose to stay local and attended The University of Texas at Dallas, where he graduated with a degree in Finance. During his time at UT – Dallas, Omar was the President of the African Student Union, a member of the school Rugby team, and worked at the on-campus Student Immigration Office. It was working at the immigration office where Omar’s interest in the legal field began. Upon graduating from UT – Dallas, Omar spent about two years working at a tax firm in Richardson while he was also studying to go Law School. After his time in the tax world, Omar moved down to San Antonio to attend St. Mary’s University School of Law.

While in law school, Omar spent his time volunteering in multiple legal aids, accruing over 250 pro bono hours by the time he graduated, helping residents of San Antonio avoid evictions, explore affordable housing options, and even assisted low-income families finalize their divorce proceedings.

Lawyer Stuff

Immediately upon graduating from law school, Omar was selected to be a post-bar intern at the Dallas County District Attorney’s office, which then evolved into a full-time position as an Assistant District Attorney when he passed the Texas Bar Exam. He then practiced law as a prosecutor in Dallas County for the next two years, getting promoted to Chief of a misdemeanor court within the first 5 months being there, and tried numerous cases ranging from driving while intoxicated to assault.

Towards the end of his time as an Assistant District Attorney for Dallas County, Omar was handling the highest degree of felony cases such as aggravated robbery and murder. During his time there, Omar participated in many trial classes and trainings provided by the DA’s Office. He also had the opportunity to work closely with police departments all over Dallas County. He uses all these skills learned as an Assistant District Attorney to now help citizens-accused and to assist the very community that he grew up in.
