Deandra Grant Law is proud to announce that veteran Texas trial lawyer Jason Bowes has joined the firm. Jason brings nearly two decades of courtroom experience and a hard-fought trial record to our criminal defense team, and will represent clients across Central and North Texas facing serious felony charges, child abuse and sex crime allegations, and DWI prosecutions. Based out of our Waco office, Jason expands the firm’s trial bench in McLennan County and surrounding courts while supporting clients in Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, Denton, Rockwall, and beyond.
A Trial Lawyer’s Trial Lawyer
Jason has been in courtrooms his entire career. After graduating in the top 20% of his class from Texas Wesleyan School of Law in 2006, he spent his early years handling national title underwriting and compliance work for Fidelity National Agency Solutions, before moving to civil litigation at Bell & Bowes during the height of the 2008 mortgage crisis.
In 2012, Jason took on the trial work that would come to define his career: defending insurance claims for Allstate at G. Patrick Collins. He tried 25 civil jury cases as first chair and posted the most trials, the most wins, and the most plaintiff take-nothing verdicts of any Allstate attorney in Texas. That track record is where Jason developed the discipline, instincts, and case strategy he now brings to every criminal defense matter.
In 2016, Jason crossed over to criminal defense at the Law Office of James Vasilas, where he spent the next seven years trying everything from misdemeanors to murder. He focused on representing undocumented clients and the wrongfully accused in high-stakes felony matters including murder, aggravated sexual assault of a child, indecency with a child, continuous sexual abuse of a child, and a wide range of domestic violence cases. For the past three years, Jason ran his own Dallas firm, continuing his focus on serious felony defense before joining Deandra Grant Law.
A Passion for Defending the Wrongfully Accused
Jason has built a particular reputation defending clients accused of child abuse and sex crimes which are cases most defense attorneys are hesitant to take. As Jason puts it, the law in these cases is heavily weighted toward the complaining witness, the evidence is rarely “hard,” and jurors often walk into the courthouse already presuming guilt. Many of the accused find themselves with no one willing to fight for them.
That is precisely why Jason takes those cases. A wrongful accusation can destroy a person’s family, career, and freedom in a matter of hours. Jason believes every client (no matter the charge) deserves a lawyer who will challenge the State’s evidence at every step, hold prosecutors to their burden of proof beyond a reasonable doubt, and try the case to verdict when that is what justice requires.
What Jason’s Arrival Means for Our Clients
Jason’s addition deepens the firm’s trial capacity across nearly every area of our criminal defense practice, including:
- Murder and serious violent felonies
- Aggravated assault, intoxication assault under Texas Penal Code §49.07, and intoxication manslaughter under §49.08
- Sex crimes, including aggravated sexual assault, indecency with a child, continuous sexual abuse of a young child, online solicitation of a minor, and child sexual abuse material (CSAM) cases
- Family violence, assault, and protective order matters
- DWI and DUID defense, including felony DWI and repeat-offender cases
Because Jason is based in Waco, his arrival also strengthens our trial presence in McLennan County and the surrounding Central Texas courts, alongside the firm’s established reach in Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, Denton, Rockwall, and the broader North Texas region.
A Welcome from Managing Partner Deandra Grant
“Jason is exactly the kind of trial lawyer I want in our courtrooms. He has the trial numbers, the courage to take the cases nobody else will, and the discipline to actually win them. Our clients (especially those facing the most serious charges Texas can bring) deserve a defender like Jason in their corner. We’re thrilled to have him join our team at Deandra Grant Law.”

Meet Jason
Jason was born in Chicago and raised in Dallas, where he attended Highland Park High School before serving in the Texas National Guard. He earned an Associate’s degree in Spanish from Collin County Community College, a bachelor’s in Medieval History from the University of Texas at Dallas, and his law degree from Texas Wesleyan School of Law in 2006. He is the proud father of two: Jackson, a freshman studying aerospace engineering at Auburn University, and Emerson, a freshman volleyball player at Allen High School.
Jason now lives in Waco. He is open about being eleven years sober and devotes much of his time to substance abuse charities and community work. When he isn’t in court, he can be found running, spending time outdoors, or enjoying the quiet of country life. Jason’s perspective on the criminal justice system is shaped by experience on both sides of the courtroom and that perspective informs how he fights for every client he represents.
