      Dallas Weapon Charges Attorneys

In the state of Texas, there are strict laws regarding the possession and use of weapons. A violation of weapon laws will result in serious weapon charges, which could result in a revocation of your right to own a firearm. While we think of weapons charges involving only firearms, it is essential to recognize that many different weapons are prohibited by Texas law.

Have you been charged with a weapon crime in Texas? Call Deandra Grant Law today or contact us online to schedule a meeting with our weapon charges lawyer in Dallas!

What Weapons Are Illegal In Texas?

The following are weapons that are illegal to own except, in certain cases, such as antiques:

      • Machine guns
      • Rifles with barrels less than 16 inches in length
      • Shotguns with barrels less than 18 inches in length
      • Explosives such as grenades and bombs
      • Switchblade knives
      • Brass knuckles
      • Improvised handguns (zip guns)

If you are arrested and charged with possessing any of these weapons, you could face severe penalties and should contact a Dallas firearm offense attorney.

What Are The Penalties For Weapon Offenses?

In Texas, weapon offenses can result in severe penalties. Here are some examples of weapon offenses and their corresponding penalties:

      • Possession of a machine gun: Third-degree felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

      • Possession of explosives such as grenades and bombs: Second-degree felony, punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
      • Carrying a switchblade knife: Class A misdemeanor, punishable by up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $4,000.
      • Possession of brass knuckles: Class A misdemeanor, punishable by up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $4,000.
      • Improvised handguns (zip guns): Third-degree felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
