Attorney Grant Teaches DWI 101 Class

Our law firm’s founder, Attorney Deandra M. Grant, recently had the privilege of teaching some of Texas’ future lawyers about the art of effectively representing clients in DWI cases. Ms. Grant joined another lawyer last Thursday in teaching a DWI class for the Criminal Defense Clinic of the Texas Tech University School of Law. Our firm’s founder also taught at a seminar on Friday, which was attended by law students and legal professionals. Both of the events occurred in Lubbock, Texas.

Firm Name Changed to Deandra Grant LawThrough the law school’s Criminal Defense Clinic, students get hands-on experience handling cases in Lubbock County (while under supervision) and working with practicing attorneys. According to the Texas Tech University School of Law website, the clinic also involves classroom time, which provides training for the students in the areas of ethics, skills development and case strategy as they apply to criminal law. Attorney Grant considers it an honor to have been able to teach the Criminal Defense Clinic students, who will one day be attorneys in the state of Texas.

On Friday, the day after teaching the DWI 101 class, Attorney Grant continued teaching others about DWI defense. She served as a speaker at the ILFSS seminar “Trial Skills: Defending a DWI Case with Breath/Blood Evidence,” where she discussed the science that is involved in DWI cases and DWI trial skills. ILFSS stands for International Legal & Forensic Science Services, Inc. At this event, Ms. Grant provided training to a group of 39, which included law students, lawyers and judges. The event was topped off with a pleasant surprise for Attorney Grant—a cookie cake that replicated her new book, The Texas DWI Manual. This surprise was offered by the Lubbock attorneys.

Ms. Grant is well-qualified to teach current and future lawyers about DWI defense. The Collin County criminal defense lawyer has undergone extensive training in how to operate the Intoxilyzer 5000, how to conduct standardized field sobriety tests and train others in this type of testing, how DWI forensic blood and urine testing is carried out, and various other aspects of DWI cases. Attorney Grant, who is a national speaker and teacher on topics related to her field, has also achieved various other accomplishments that have demonstrated her advanced knowledge in DWI defense and criminal defense. She has been selected for inclusion in the 2011 and 2012 lists of Super Lawyers®, and she has also been given an AV Preeminent® rating by Martindale-Hubbell®.
