Charged With a Theft Crime in Dallas?
Serving Northern Texas From Fort Worth, Allen, Denton, Waco & Austin
In the state of Texas, there are several different offenses that constitute theft. Depending on the value of the theft, you could face moderate to severe penalties for a criminal conviction. All of the following actions are considered theft in this state:
- Shoplifting — This involves taking items from a store with the intention of not paying for the full value of said items.
- Issuing bad checks — If you use a check to pay for an item or service and there is not enough money in the linked account, then you have 10 days to reimburse the merchant before you can be charged for a bounced check.
- General theft — Taking items or property that belongs to someone else when you do not have permission is theft.
- Purchasing / receiving stolen property — If you accept or purchase property from an individual, knowing that the property does not belong to them or that it was stolen, then you could be arrested and charged with a criminal offense.
