All criminal cases in Tarrant County are heard at the Tim Curry Criminal Justice Center in downtown Fort Worth. This facility houses all 11 District Courts with criminal jurisdiction, all 10 County Criminal Courts, the Criminal District Attorney’s Office, and the District Clerk’s Office.

District Courts (Felony Criminal)

Tarrant County has 11 District Courts that handle felony criminal cases. These courts hear everything from state jail felonies to capital murder. Felony cases are randomly assigned to courts upon indictment.

Note: Tarrant County has additional district courts that handle only civil matters. Only courts with criminal jurisdiction are listed here. Judge names should be verified with the District Clerk at (817) 884-1342 as assignments change.

County Criminal Courts (Misdemeanor)

Tarrant County has 10 County Criminal Courts that handle all Class A and Class B misdemeanor cases, including first-offense DWI, misdemeanor assault, drug possession, theft, and other misdemeanor offenses.

County Criminal Court judges and assignments should be verified with the County Clerk as they change periodically.

DA Sorrells was elected in 2022 after serving 25 years as the judge of County Criminal Court No. 10. His office is unified which means it handles both felony and misdemeanor prosecution. The office includes specialized units for white collar crime, family violence, child abuse, public integrity, and asset forfeiture. First Assistant DA is Robb Catalano.

The Tarrant County Jail is one of the largest county jails in Texas. After arrest, individuals are booked and held until bond is posted.

Federal Court — Northern District of Texas, Fort Worth Division
